Solo developer Exodiac Studios has announced SILENT BREATH, a first-person psychological horror title that, similar to Steelkrill Studios’ Rotten Flesh, makes heavy use of a microphone gameplay mechanic to generate its scares. Only this time, if you scream, you lose.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and sporting “found footage” visuals, SILENT BREATH puts you in the middle of a forest, with your goal to find those people who have gotten themselves lost. The problem is that you’re doing this at night, and you have to keep quiet, as the forest is listening to your voice through your microphone as you explore. If you make a sound, you’re one step closer to becoming lost yourself.
Complicating matters is the fact that you’ll have to constantly check your surroundings, as something known as “the sisters of the forest” have been rumored to roam the forest for years. They come out to hunt at night to “play games”, and want you to take part. If you do end up screaming or get caught by whatever’s out there, the game restarts, but this time the locations of the people you’ve already found have changed. Making things worse is the fact that you can’t even predict what SILENT BREATH will throw at you at any given time, due to the game’s use of randomization.
SILENT BREATH will launch into Early Access on Steam. No date for the game’s release has been announced, but you can wishlist it from its Steam page.
